The birria tacos are awesome!! My husband had the birria burrito and loved it!!! definitely recommend!

The fiancé and I finished a long hike and decided to reward ourselves with Mexican food. We came to Xalos based on the excellent Yelp reviews (but really, the pics of birria tacos). I was expecting something more hole-in-the-wall (Mountain View has changed so much), but Xalos is an open space with lots of seating and a big menu. I couldn't decide on what to eat but went with the pork carnitas plate. Fiancé went with the birria tacos and we shared some guac and chips. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. The pork on mine was very tender and juicy and there was something about the flour tortilla that was different but very good. I seasoned it with their spiciest hot sauce (I could handle on its own, but accidentally ate a jalapeño right after...yikes). I honestly could have inhaled the whole plate but saved some for later. Fiancé is somewhat of a birria connoisseur, and while these weren't his favorite he enjoyed them. Xalos was a great find and good value for the price (a little over $50 for the two entrees and appetizer). I'd love to try their tacos on our next visit.

I had the Birria quesadilla with consome and it was delicious! I forgot how much I paid but it was well worth it.

Xalos is my absolute FAVORITE!!! Everything is always a 10/10. My most favorites are the birria tacos, birria burrito, burrito con caso, the nachos!!!!! Ugh so good!

Great experience! We needed something quick as we were running errands and this ended up being what we needed! Pretty large menu with the typical Mexican items you'd want to find at a more "authentic" place in Anchorage. I wouldn't say it's toralt authentic but the food was great, my whole family enjoyed it. We got a variety of foods and of course horchata! The ambiance was quieter than we expected which was nice and relaxing! The service was great, the people there were lovely! We'd come again

Great spot for freshly made, authentic Mexican food - fast! We stopped in for a quick bite before sledding on a snowy day. The chicken tortilla soup hit the spot! The guacamole was fresh, and the chips were perfectly crisp. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the kids meal too!

What I expected was a Qdoba or Chipotle style setup. What I received was a hybrid Mexican/Qdoba style setting. Let me explain, briefly. I was a little thrown off with ordering. You head straight to the cash register to order. They don't make your food as you order, which is a little confusing with the way the place is setup. Food: The carnitas plate. Obviously someone knows what they are doing. The carnitas were tender and juicy without being overly salted. There were some chunks of fat mixed in, but only a modicum. I've had other servings of carnitas with large, unruly chunks of fat. Not here. The black beans had just a tad more flavor making it also stand out a tad. The rice was pretty normal Spanish style rice. There was also a mini salad of sorts with lettuce, pico de gallo, and some guacamole. Service: Ordering behind the plastic screen is difficult. Between the kitchen noises, the music (which is authentic), and the screens, it's just hard. I totally get it, just be prepared to repeat yourself. Notables: No salsa bar was available. I'm not sure if they had cleaned it up early or if they are only doing little plastic containers. They have a sign with five types of salsa. They are included with your order. Also, they had two different types of Squirt. I never see Squirt anywhere. There was also a good variety of Mexican sodas. Ambiance: the space looked and smelled clean. Organized.
